Blog entry June 2010
Do you need a goal to train for? Does the idea of running in a toga sound like your cup of tea?
We have a pair of outstanding races coming in September. Both involve team running (togas are optional, but recommended).

We need 12 runners to complete the Red Rock Relay. on 10-11 September. The entry fee is $91 per runner. Sign up at the front desk if interested.
We are especially excited about Utah's first ever mud run--The Dirty Dash at Soldier Hollow!
Have you ever said to yourself, “Marathons are too easy, and Triathlons are for sissies?”
We haven’t either…those races are really hard. Think about it…the first person to run a marathon actually died. HE DIED!...and he probably didn’t even have fun along the way!
Well let us introduce you to the new race in town…THE DIRTY DASH. This race puts all other races to shame. The Dirty Dash is where a military boot camp meets your inner five-year-old’s fantasy and subsequently converts boy to man and then…man to swine.
You’ll need endurance to trudge up mountains of sludge, courage to overcome uncompromising obstacles, a complete lack of shame to wallow in pits of mud and a smile to show through at the end!
So let this 10K obstacle course become your new guilty pleasure. Go solo or with 4 of your dirtiest, filthiest, & uncouth friends. On either accord…you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror and say “I am a Dirty Dasher!”… and then proceed to clean yourself off.

Upcoming Changes at CrossFit Mount Olympus
Just a heads up for everyone about some upcoming changes at CrossFit Mount Olympus. We are grateful for the continued growth and addition of new members to the Mount Olympus team. As a result, we are adding additional workout times available to make it easier for you to get in and workout, as well as making some administrative changes.
Classes tomorrow (Friday, 18 June 2010)
This Friday only, classes will be held from 6:30am-7:30am and 6:00pm-7:00pm. Jeremy will travel to Denver with the Utah All-State Rugby team and Brandon will cover those classes.
New Beginning CrossFit Classes
We have added an additional Beginning time at 4:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday starting next week. The Boot Camp class is specially designed for those starting to get back in shape. All have been added to the schedule on the website.
Auto Payments
We are now set up to do automatic payments with eChecks! We will be transitioning everyone to the auto-pay system over the next month. Everyone will need to sign a new contract. All contracts will still be month-to-month, but state law requires we have a written contract with everyone.
Check-in
We will begin using ZenPlanner to check in and maintain accountability next week. This will help us better hold you accountable for attendance, which in turn will lead to better results!
CrossFit Mount Olympian of the Month--Steve Neff
Steve began training in January and pound for pound is one of our top performers. Steve brings an incredible work ethic and desire to gain elite fitness and we are honored to name him the first Mount Olympian of the month!

Steve brings remarkable athletic ability to CrossFit Mount Olympus. He suffered serious injuries to both knees when he was young and doctors told him he would not run again. Steve has proved them all wrong, becoming the Utah state heavyweight wrestling champion in high school and playing football and wrestling for Weber State, then concluding his wrestling career at BYU.

Steve is a VERY LARGE man, yet approaches every workout with a determination to finish. He never shies away from uncomfortable exercises. Only five months into his CrossFit training, Steve accomplished his first unassisted pullup--he weighed 315 pounds at the time! This week Steve completed the workout "Helen" as prescribed--3 rounds of: 400 meter run, 21 Kettlebell swings, and 12 pullups. I challenge anyone, anywhere to complete this workout while weighing the same as Steve. We'll add weight to make it an even 310 pounds. The rucksack and weights await you! If you are up for the challenge, try to reach Steve's 36 inch box jump.
Despite Steve's considerable athletic ability, his greatest accomplishment was certainly the day he convinced Corey to marry him! The entire Neff family bring a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to CrossFit. If you want to see what CrossFit can do through proper exercise and nutrition, look to Steve and Corey and the rest of the family.

We are all better because Steve cast his considerable shadow over CrossFit Mount Olympus. When he reaches his goal weight, we're all in trouble!
